Listen to the stressed and non-stressed sounds in the sentences.

Basically stress words are considered CONTENT words:

  • nouns: book, John

  • principle verbs: show, visit

  • adjectives: interesting

  • adverbs: often, sometimes

Non-stressed words are function words:

  • determiners: the, a, some

  • auxiliary verbs: don't, am, can, were

  • conjunctions: but, while, as

  • pronouns: they, she, us, etc
